Asynchronous I/O

As an ExSeisDat Developer I would like to experiment with Asynchronous I/O in order to investigate the possible performance benefits.

Ultimately would like to implement Asynchronous I/O calls and use within Flow, to allow pre fetching and early writing of data to/from disk. Currently I/O is blocking and non-blocking I/O should improve the flow of data to and from disk

Implementing this is a big job with unknown performance benefits and as such this implications and possible performance improvements first need to be investigated. This is likely to lead to possible publications.
